Picket signs created by members of ACT UP/Los Angeles, circa 1987-1996. These signs were displayed during demonstrations and protests organized by ACT UP/Los Angeles to bring attention to the HIV/AIDS epidemic and to advocate for more support services, funding, and medical research.

The march goals focused on the passage of employment protection legislation for lesbian and gay people, primarily through assembly bill AB-1, and the cessation of violence against lesbian and gay people in society.

The Committee organized the first gay pride events in New York in 1970 to commemorate the Stonewall Riots of 1969. Many photographs of the pride parade may be found in folders dated 1971-1973.

Seven picket signs from the earliest public demonstrations in the United States advocating for gay and lesbian rights, organized by Frank Kameny and Barbara Gittings, among others. The original protests and subsequent "Annual Reminder" demonstrations were held in Washington, D.C., New York City, and Philadelphia from 1965-1969, and were attended by east coast members of the Mattachine Society, Janus Society, and Daughters of Bilitis.
