A few thousand negatives created by professional photographers in the Los Angeles area, seemingly for the Los Angeles City News Service. The negatives depict a wide variety of news worthy topics (including freeway traffic, ribbon cuttings, community events at parks, schools and churches, animals, the Hollywood Bowl, carnivals, etc.).

Abstract A collection of eight photographic prints of Los Angeles, CA taken between 1906 and 1907. Seven of the photographs are dated January 1, 1906. The 1906 photographs show the Port of Los Angeles in the San Pedro Bay. The eigth photograph is dated July 1907 and shows the Santa Monica bluffs looking toward Ocean Park. Julie A. Abstract

This album appears to be documentation of a trip to Southern California. It contains photographs of various residences in Southern California, including Los Angeles, Pasadena, and Redlands; hotel grounds in Santa Monica, Pasadena, Redlands, and Riverside;, parks in Los Angeles (including East Lake, West Lake, and Central Parks); Catalina; and what is presumably the creators home in Albion, Michigan. The last 6 pages hold photographs documenting the March 7, 1908 flood in that city.

Abstract

The Southern California housing reports and photographs collection consists of reports, photographs, studies, housing authority materials, and a speech, 1937-1972, related to the problem of affordable housing in Los Angeles. The reports were authored by the Los Angeles City Housing Authority, the Los Angeles City Planning Commission, and the Claremont Colleges. The photographs provide visual evidence of slum housing in Los Angeles in the 1940s.
