Biographical / Historical

The bibliography project began with the hiring of Julian Underwood as a research assistant under funding from the Institute for the Study of Human Resources (ISHR) in 1964. In 1967 Julian Underwood and W. Dorr Legg produced a 14-page annotated bibliography compiled mostly from in-house library materials. ISHR funded an extended two-volume reprint authored by Vern Bullough, Dorr Legg, Jim Kepner, and Barrett Elcano that provided bibliographic references from around the world. An update to the annotated bibliography to be called The Comprehensive Bibliography was engaged in the early 1980s, but the project was never completed. For more information see the Comprehensive Bibliography of Homosexuality Work Papers, Coll2008-007, at the ONE National Gay and Lesbian Archives, Los Angeles, California.
