Collection consists of the manuscripts, financial records, land documents, and other records from the Curiel family, pertaining to their operation and upkeep of their hacienda. Papers primarily pertain to hacienda owner Don Luis C. Curiel, Jr.

Biographical / Historical
The hacienda economic system began in colonial Mexico as a means of establishing landed elites who ruled over and exploited the labor of indigenous peoples and mestizo workers. The hacienda became a ready source of class and ethnic conflict that would ignite during the Mexican Revolution.
