Foundation films
Scope and Content
The Foundation films consist of 739 containers of film (some boxes holding more than one reel) that chronicle many of the activities of the Foundation's scientists aboard the Velero IV, especially the activities of John Garth. Subjects include the Galapagos Islands, Mexico and South America, elephant seals and sea lions in California and Mexico, birds,and marine biology. An inventory of all the films is available.

Processing Information
The USC Digital Library digitized the Hancock Foundation films as part of a 2016 National Park Service Maritime Heritage grant, administered by the National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior. After the USC Digital Library digitized the films, the USC Libraries deaccessioned the analog originals due to their condition.
