Overview On April 29, 1992, the city of Los Angeles erupted into riots after four LAPD officers accused of beating motorist Rodney King were acquitted of all criminal charges. Abstract Chaired by attorney Warren Christopher, the Independent Commission on the Los Angeles Police Department was formed in the wake of the 1991 videotaped beating of Rodney King by several LAPD officers. The collection consists of files kept by Richard M. Mosk in his capacity as a member of the Commission.
