Abstract

The collection reflects the activities of the California Historical Society’s Southern California Branch from the late 1970s through the early 1990s. The primary visual collection was the C.C. Pierce photographic collection, acquired by the Society from the Title Insurance and Trust Corporation (TICOR) in 1941. The majority of the photographic materials have been digitized and incorporated into the USC Digital Library.

Abstract A glass plate showing the first photograph sent by wireless radio. The envelope holding the glass plate states that this was the first photograph ever sent by wireless radio, transmitted April 29, 1925 from Honolulu to New York. The subject of the transmitted image is W. P. S. Hawk, Pacific Superintendent of RCA Corporation from 1910 to 1933. All of the portraits show women posed within photo studio sets, with most of the sets portraying oceanside scenes.
