Walter B. Alsky papers

Abstract Walter B. Alsky was born on June 30, 1917 in Foxboro, Massachusetts. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1941, and was assigned to the IV Fighter Command, Signal Headquarters, in Oakland, California. After his discharge in 1945, he returned to Monterey Park and marrked Victoria H. Sladik, from whom he was divorced by 1947. Alsky never remarried, but his obituary notes that he was survived by his domestic partner of 47 years, Cliff Bagwell, a hairstylist who operated a salon in Alhambra. Alsky...

Abstract

The collection consists of copies of the Manzanar Free Press, the Information Bulletin published by the Japanese-American Relations Committee of the American Friends Service Committee, and various pamphlets and fliers published and/or distributed by the War Relocation Authority and various private social service agencies. The bulk of the material is sympathetic to the plight of the interned Japanese and their eventual return (resettlement) to their homes.

Edward Paik was a Korean American food service equipment sales supervisor, Kitchen Specialist, and U.S. Air Force Surplus Property Disposal Specialist. This collection comprises primarily photographs and printed materials created and collected by Edward Paik. It also contains ephemera in the form of service medals, a wool cap, and Army patches, as well as personal papers in the form of correspondence, letters, and yearbooks.

Ribaudo scrapbook on the Hollywood Canteen includes a variety of memorabilia collected by Ribaudo, who went by the stage name Connie Roberts, during her employment as a hostess at the Hollywood Canteen during World War II. The Hollywood Canteen was a converted barn that operated at 1451 Cahuenga Boulevard in Hollywood from October 3, 1942 to Thanksgiving Day 1945 as a club offering food, dancing, and entertainment for more than three million servicemen.
