Scope and Contents The collection of Chinese posters consists of approximately 43 posters, including a few duplicates, advertising both Chinese and Western products. Many of the posters date from the 1920s and were printed in China by the Shanghai Commercial Press (Shanghai shang wu yin shu guan or 上海商务印书馆). Ed Cray (b. 1933) is a veteran journalist and associate professor of journalism at USC. The collection includes Volumes 1-18 (1949-67) of the liberal West Coast political weekly/monthly Frontier Magazine, edited by Phil Kerby. Cray often wrote for the publication. Also included are posters, photographs by Cray, and notes, typescripts and correspondence on Cray's publications, California politics and American foreign policy.
