Blankenchip joined USC in 1955, just a decade after the drama department was founded by playwright and director William C. DeMille, and continued to teach classes in directing and experimental theatre at the school until a month before he died at the age of 89.

There is also correspondence with her lesbian sister Hortense "Bo" Boutell (1913-2006), a lieutenant colonel and the first female logistician in the United States Army.
