Administrative History
Dan White was paroled from prison in January 1984 after completing five of his seven year prison term for the voluntary manslaughter of San Francisco Mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk. The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation placed White in an undisclosed location in Los Angeles County to serve his year on parole. The petition documents the names of community members seeking the relocation of Dan White from Los Angeles County. The organization was unsuccessful in its attempt to have the Department of Corrections or the Governor reconsider White's placement. After serving his parole, White returned to San Francisco in 1985 where his life unraveled. His marriage ended in divorce and he took his own life in October 1985.
