F. Kenneth Barta papers
Scope and Contents
The collection comprises clippings, brochures, administrative records, theater programs, notes, and a poem, circa 1954-1975, from Reverend F. Kenneth Barta, former member of the Southern California Council on Religion and the Homophile (SCCRH). The collection includes administrative records from SCCRH; materials from Glide Foundation and the Council on Religion and the Homosexual in San Francisco; and subject files on homosexuality, censorship, religion, and legal issues. The collection also includes flyers and publicity material from gay organizations such as Christopher Street West, Dignity, and the Metropolitan Community Church; as well as the anti-obscenity organizations Citizens for Decent Literature and California League Enlisting Action Now (CLEAN).

Biography
F. Kenneth Barta was born on April 5, 1924 in the U.S. Virgin Islands. He worked as a rector in Episcopal churches in the Virgin Islands, Florida, and California; and as a chaplain for Veterans Affairs hospitals in California.
In the 1960s, he was a member of Southern California Council on Religion and the Homophile and One Incorporated. Barta died on August 4, 2012.
