Historical Note

In late 1970, an unofficial student support group was formed at the University of Southern California, known as the Gay Liberation Forum. For four years, the group attempted to be recognized as an official student organization, which included filing a legal action against the university. In Fall 1974, the Gay Students Union (GSU) was established at USC. After eight years of development, in April 1984, USC approved the establishment of the Gay and Lesbian Student Assembly (GLSA) in the Student Senate, later renamed the Gay & Lesbian Assembly for Student Support (GLASS) in 1988. Beginning in 1986, the Lambda Alumni was formed as a support network for the student organization and which was officiated through USC's Department of Development.

In the 1980s, Paul Ballard served as president of the GLSU, and later served as director of the Lambda Alumni.
