Administrative History

In the early 1990s, the San Francisco Unified School District's (SFUSD) Board of Education approved the establishment of a program to provide counseling services to gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning high school youth. After a couple of years, the services expanded to include responding to the needs of students, families, and staff at all SFUSD sites. In 2005, Joseph D. Marigliano worked with Claire Lilienthal school parents, teachers, and administration to adopt a family diversity lesson mandate. In 2006, his proposal to require all K-8 teachers in the SFUSD to teach and verify the teaching of all family diversity lessons was passed by the SFUSD Board. Please consult the Administrative History file for a detailed history of these events as well as the specifics of how the resolution was implemented. As of 2013, additional information can be found at http://www.healthiersf.org/LGBTQ/index.php.
