Historical Note
Founded in 1983, the Lesbian and Gay Community Services Center (New York) began as the AIDS crisis impelled a coalition of gay and lesbian charitable organizations to negotiate the purchase of a municipal building (a former trade high school located in Greenwich Village) to serve as a centralized site for the provision of health care, counseling, cultural, and social services to New York's gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community. Steve Ault is among the Center's founding members.
