Historical Note

The Coalition for Human Rights (Los Angeles) was formed in 1977 to coordinate gay, feminist, and other minority groups' opposition to anti-gay and anti-feminist initiatives by conservative activists Anita Bryant and Phyllis Schaffley, and to California Proposition 6 Briggs Initiative. The Coalition sought to mobilize a range of minority interest groups on the grounds that threats to the rights of one group potentially jeopardized the rights of all.
