From the Collection:

The collection consists of records, documents, correspondence, and ephemera related to the administration, day-to-day operation, and development of the Center for Health Justice's programming and services. The collection also contains personal and professional materials from the CHJ's long time Executive Director Cajetan Luna, including photographs, slides, and negatives; writings and publications; and correspondence.

Biographical / Historical

Cajetan Luna is an HIV/AIDS researcher and advocate for LGBTQ+, BIPOC, and incarcerated peoples,he has been the Executive Director of the Center for Health Justice for over 15 years.

Luna holds a bachelor’s degree from San Diego State University and the University of Madrid; a master’s degree from San Francisco State University; and has completed post-graduate studies at the University of California, San Francisco and the University of California, Berkeley.

He has done extensive work with youth and AIDS, working in major cities in the United States and around the world, including New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Rio de Janeiro, and Bangkok and his publications include works on HIV/AIDS in youth, AIDS and sexuality, sex work, behavioral interventions and AIDS policy, and graffiti.

Prior to CHJ, Cajetan served as the Executive Director the San Joaquin AIDS Foundation, the Monterey County AIDS Project, and AIDS Resources Information and Services (ARIS) in Santa Clara County, where he implemented targeted interventions for migrant farm workers, gay youth, and incarcerated populations. He has consulted with UCLA, Gilead, Columbia University, the Pan American Health Organization, and the World Health Organization. Currently, Cajetan is an Inmate Welfare Commissioner with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and serves on the International Advisory Group of E.S.S.E. Mundo Digital in Rio de Janeiro.

Luna currently lives in Los Angeles.
