Biographical / Historical

"One of the most tantalizing, and often one of the sorriest, features of the modern epoch is the development of those great systems of ideas which, seizing on some formerly overlooked or underrated area of human affairs, drive certain 'basic principles' from that area, and then attempt, often with remarkable adroitness, to explain all human relations, all human problems, all human history in terms of those principles." ONE Institute Quarterly intended to examine these systems "to see if and how homophiles fit into their patterns.... and to lead up to the question of whether it may be necessary for the homophile to construct his own system of thought, and fit the world into it, rather than continue the hapless effort to fit himself onto a Procrustean bed." ONE Institute Quarterly aimed to "demonstrate that those in the [homosexual] class do constitute one of the largest and most critical groups in human society, running through all classes, all times and all societies... and to attempt to understand that minority and to assay its place in 'the scheme of things." (ONE Institute Quarterly introduction by Jim Kepner, Volume 1, Spring 1958).
