Scope and Contents

This collection contains records of the East Asian Studies Center (EASC) at the University of Southern California. Materials include administrative records such as meeting minutes, correspondence and memoranda, and planning documents; federal grant applications; and files relating to EASC's involvement developing the USC Library's East Asian collections. There are also some files related to the USC-UCLA Joint East Asia Language and Area Center.

Biographical / Historical

The East Asian Studies Center (EASC) was established at the University of Southern California in 1974 to promote and facilitate interdisciplinary work concerning East Asia. Its first director was Professor George Totten (1922-2009). One of the EASC initial goals was to develop the USC Library's East Asian collections. As part of its work, the EASC administers the USC-UCLA Joint East Asia Language and Area Center.
