Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The In Sup Shin collection on Korean advertising consists of correspondence, advertisements, writings on the Korean advertising industry, newspaper clippings, Korean advertising data, and other material collected and/or created by In Sup Shin. Born in 1929, In Sup Shin has worked in the Korean advertising industry since 1965, filling such roles as corporate communications director of Gold Star (LG Electronics), advertising director of the Hee Sung Company (HS Ad), an executive of Nara Advertising, secretary general of the 35th International Advertising Association (IAA) World Advertising Congress, executive secretary of the IAA Korea Chapter, and advisor for the Busan International Advertising Festival. Shin organized most of the collection chronologically by era. The earliest eras represented in the collection (e.g., the Gaehwagi period, 1886-1910) contain photocopies of Korean advertisements, maps, and other material on the history of the Korean advertising industry that Shin collected. The collection also holds some of Shin's correspondence and data from his advertising career, audiovisual material, and Shin's dissertation and research.
