Samuel Colt Barrymore family collection
Scope and Contents
This small collection contains miscellaneous items related to the Barrymore family of actors primarily collected by Samuel Colt (died 1986), the son of Ethel Barrymore, dating from 1911 to 1959. Materials include miscellaneous pieces of ephemera, photographs, clippings and magazines about the Barrymores; two copies of a typed manuscript "The Shakespeare Club" by Lionel Barrymore; and a 1959 letter from George L. Howe to Ethel Barrymore. Box 2 contains oversize materials consisting of etchings by Lionel Barrymore; an original music score by Lionel Barrymore; the published piano score for Lerner Berners’ "A Wedding Bouquet" (1936); and oversize press and a photograph. Some of the items were added to the collection later from other sources.

Abstract
This small collection contains miscellaneous items related to the Barrymore family of actors primarily collected by Samuel Colt (died 1986), the son of Ethel Barrymore, dating from 1911 to 1959.
Immediate Source of Acquisition
The bulk of the collection was the gift of Samuel Colt, January 1968. The carbon copy of the manuscript of "The Shakespeare Club" by Lionel Barrymore was the gift of Maynard Smith, June 26, 1968. Some Barrymore ephemera and photographs were purchased by Stephen Hansen for the USC Barrymore Family exhibit, Spring 2009. Four etchings were the gift of Ned Comstock. Acquisition information noted on folders when available.
