Biographical / Historical

George Hopkins (1896-1985) was an American set designer, playwright, and production designer. Hopkins started designing scenery on stage after studying design in college. He turned to art direction for films in 1917. Hopkins won four Academy Awards for Art Direction for "A Streetcar Named Desire" (1951), "My Fair Lady" (1964), "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" (1966), and "Hello, Dolly!" (1969).
