This collection consists of Austrian American actor Joseph Schildkraut's (1896-1964) book collection. Schildkraut acted in both theater and film, starting in Berlin. He is best known for playing Otto Frank in both the original stage play and film version of "The Diary of Anne Frank" (1959).

Biographical / Historical

Joseph Schildkraut (1896-1964) was an Austrian American actor. He started acting in theater in Berlin before moving on to film. Schildkraut is best known for playing Otto Frank in both the original stage play and film version of "The Diary of Anne Frank" (1959). He received an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in "The Life of Emile Zola" (1937). He also appeared in two episodes of "The Twilight Zone." His father is Rudolph Schildkraut, Austrian film and theatre actor.
