Scope and Contents

This collection consists of periodicals, flyers, newsletters, and printed ephemera of the fraternal organization Sons of the Desert, an organization devoted to the lives and films of comedians Stan Laurel (1890-1965) and Oliver Hardy (1892-1957). The periodicals in the collection are the group's publication, "The Bowler Desert."

Biographical / Historical

The Sons of the Desert is an international fraternal organization devoted to the lives and films of comedians Stan Laurel (1890-1965) and Oliver Hardy (1892-1957). The name of the organization is based on "Sons of the Desert" (1933), an American comedy film starring Laurel and Hardy. It was founded in 1964 and continues to be active.
