Scope and Contents

This collection includes the music scores and audio recordings for the film and television projects of American composer Basil Poledouris (1945-2006). Scores for The Blue Lagoon (1980), Conan the Barbarian (1982), RoboCop (1987), Lonesome Dove (1989), Hunt for Red October (1990), and Free Willy (1993) are represented in this collection.

Biographical / Historical

Basil Poledouris (1945-2006) was an American composer who scored more than 80 films and television programs during his 36-year career. Poledouris studied filmmaking and music at USC in the 1960s. After scoring more than 100 educational films with such titles as A Day in the Life of a Dollar Bill, Poledouris got his feature film break in former USC classmate John Milius’ surfing film Big Wednesday (1978). Poledouris often collaborated with Milius, as well as Dutch director Paul Verhoeven.
