Scope and Contents

This collection contains the papers of American film producer David Weisbart (1915-1967). Materials consist of screenplays, correspondence, stills, budgets, and general production materials relating to approximately 13 films produced by Weisbart; miscellaneous scripts and treatments pertaining to 56 unproduced films and television shows; synopses of approximately 30 projects (1950-1960); and extensive memos of correspondence from the story department at Twentieth Century-Fox (1950-1959). Screenplays include Love Me Tender (1956), April Love (1957), The Pleasure Seekers (1964), and Valley of the Dolls (1967).

Biographical / Historical

David Weisbart (1915-1967) was an American film editor and producer. He edited films including "The Constant Nymph" (1943), "Dark Passage" (1947), "The Glass Menagerie" (1950), and "A Streetcar Named Desire" (1951), and "Johnny Belinda" (1948). He produced films including "Rebel Without A Cause" (1955), "April Love" (1957), and "Love Me Tender" (1956). Weisbart was producing "Valley of the Dolls" (1967) when he died suddenly.
