Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

This collection consists chiefly of materials related to the acting career of American actor Charles Bickford (1891-1967), covering the period 1925 to 1967. Materials include stills, magazine and newspaper clippings and publicity, and programs and ephemera from Bickford's work in plays, film, television, and radio. There are a few pieces of correspondence (including two letters from John Frankenheimer), and some awards and certificates. There is also a folder of miscellaneous items about actress Alene Carroll (Box 2, Folder 41) including a letter from Carl Laemmle. Boxes 4-5 contain phonograph records of recordings of productions involving Bickford. A fan scrapbook of clippings and images of Charles Bickford kept by Hazel Koehn was added to the collection in 2005 (Box 2, Folder 42). Oversize materials are held in Box 3.

Similar types of materials including stills and publicity may be housed either in folders under the project title or arranged by format in folders for publicity and photographs.
