The notebooks contained within this subseries contain drafts of many works by Muske-Dukes. They are roughly arranged by work. Since most notebooks contain drafts of multiple works, a strict arrangement by work, regrettably, is impossible.

This series traces Muske-Dukes' various academic endeavors, inluding her career at the University of Southern California (USC), her work in New York area prisons, and her participation in conferences and other programs. Documentation relating to Muske-Dukes' USC tenure has been compiled in its own subseries to commerate her contribution to USC's history, in particular, her role in the creation of USC's graduate program in Literature and Creative Writing.

The publication series includes works of Carol Muske-Dukes that have been published as poetry and/or articles. Formats include books, anthologies, calendars, and newspaper clippings. This series also includes "New York Beijing," a poetry anthology that includes both English and a Mandarin translation for each poem included. Assistant Ed Draft Lit. magazines are in boxes 41-43.
