This series consists of letters between Lawrence Lipton and key members of the Beat Generation movement, many of the publishers with whom Lipton corresponded regarding the publishing of his work, and publishers who sent Lipton the work of other writers. The correspondence between Lipton and noteworthy authors such as Allen Ginsberg, his ex-wife Craig Rice, and many jazz musicians demonstrates Lipton’s engagement with the literary and music community of the mid-twentieth century.

This series contains Lipton's clippings from periodicals and magazines from various publications of the mid-twentieth century such as the Los Angeles Times, New York Times, TIMES Magazine, UCLA Daily Bruin, and the L.A. Weekly News. Subject matter for these periodicals and magazines reflect much of the political issues of the time, such as student protests, civil rights, sexuality, experimentation with psychedelic drugs, critiques of higher educational systems, and music in pop culture.
