Scope and Contents
The USC Dames records consists of is a copy of the USC chapter's Constitution and By-Laws, a series of index cards with handwritten notes regarding the history of the Dames, and an official Executive Board gavel inscribed 1961-'62.

Historical note
The University of Southern California Dames is a chapter of The National Association of University Dames. The first Dames were the wives of Harvard University in 1896. It was a Harvard Dame, Mrs. C.B. Davenport, who carried the idea to the University of Chicago and in 1921 the National Association of University Dames was officially founded with the University of Chicago serving as the Mother Chapter. The USC chapter was formed for the wives of graduate students in 1934 with the help of Dr. Mary Sinclair Crawford, then the Dean of Women.
