Scope and Contents
This collection contains the records of Town and Gown of the University of Southern California, a non-profit organization begun in 1904 as the Women's Club of USC, which raises money for scholarships, campus projects, and cultural programs. Much of the collection centers on the planning and work needed produce Town and Gown benefit events, most notably the annual luncheon and fashion show, and consequently there is a great deal of overlap among the series.
Two of the largest series are the Event Files and Reports and the President's books, which primarily contain working files often related to the annual benefit luncheon. These files typically include meeting agendas, committee reports, financial records, and planning documents. The collection also includes scrapbooks, known as the "Historian's book" beginning in 1985, which contain photographs, event ephemera, clippings, and meeting notes reflecting the activities of the organization. The Public Relations series chiefly contains working files related to publicizing Town and Gown events. There are also smaller record sets including four framed civic commendations; six compact discs; various financial records; membership lists and rosters; meeting minutes; files related to memorial donations (1991-1994); publications including Town & Gown handbooks, newsletter issues, and the 1997 publication "A History of Town and Gown"; and some files related to the scholarship program.
Much of the collection was removed from 3-ring binders for preservation purposes.
