Scope and Contents

This collection contains correspondence of Argentine writer Victoria Ocampo (1890-1979), dating from the 1920s to the 1970s. There are approximately 100 letters from Ocampo to journalist Carlos Burone, chiefly dating from 1974-1976; 42 letters from Ocampo to historian Alberto Salas (1955-1978); 9 letters between Ocampo and Angel J. Battistessa (1970-1978), with a typescript annotated poem “La Virgen A Mediodia" and an edited typescript page of text; 3 letters from Victoria Ocampo to Antonio Aita, president of the P.E.N. Club (1960-1962); 3 undated letters from Ocampo with typescript copies of 4 letters and a telegram from Bernardo Canal Feijóo to Ocampo (1940-1943); two letters from Gabriela Mistral to Ocampo (1938); and a letter from to Guillermo de Torre (30 July 1922) [French handwritten original with two typescript Spanish translations]. The collection also includes a photograph of Victoria Ocampo's home, three newspaper clippings regarding Ocampo's life and work, and documentation about the Ocampo collection's contents and acquisition.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Items acquired from various sources. The Antonio Aita, Angel J. Battistessa, and Bernardo Canal Feijóo items were purchased from Librería de Antaño, Buenos Ayres, 2009-2010. The letter to Guillermo de Torre was purchased from Karno Books, April 2006.
