Scope and Contents

This collection includes the syllabi, records, publications, photographs, and grade books of Ross Berkes, professor of International Relations at USC from 1941-1991. Records from Berkes' travels to the UK and Germany with USC’s graduate international relations programs are included in this collection. Box 18 contains course roll records and student grades.

Biographical / Historical

Ross Berkes’ scholastic career spanned from 1941-1991 and he served as the director of USC’s School of International Relations from 1949 to 1976. Berkes served as a consultant to the State Department from 1958 to 1962 and was the director of the Institute of World Affairs in Santa Barbara, CA from 1977 to 1980. From 1965 to 1981, Berkes directed USC’s graduate international relations programs in the United Kingdom and Germany. He was director of the Institute of World Affairs annual conferences in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Berkes was awarded the position of professor emeritus 1981, and in 1991 he was awarded the honor of distinguished professor emeritus.
