Biographical note
Wayburn E. Johnston (1879-1965) was born on a farm in Franklin County, oOwa. He spent his childhood in Estherville, Iowa, and moved to Minneapolis to attend the University of Minnesota. After his marriage, he and his family moved to Sacramento where he spent 4 years working in the Mechanical Engineering Department of the Southern Pacific Railroad. The family then returned to St. Paula and Johnston went to work for the Great Northern Railroad. In 1923, he founded Johnston Manufacturing Company in Minneapolis, which built custom designed furnaces.
