John F. Scottini diaries, photographs, and ephemera
Scope and Contents
A collection of two diaries, photographs, a published book, and ephemera relating to John F. Scottini (1894-1972), a Los Angeles man who served as a Private with the 364th Infantry during World War I. The diaries recount Scottini's day to day experiences as a soldier leaving the United States to fight in Europe, marching from place to place, and encountering danger along the way. A section of one of the diaries has several pages devoted to the names of unit comrades with their addresses, many of which are in California. This diary also includes the sewing needle Scottini kept at hand to mend what he was wearing. Photographs in the collection include images of Scottini as a soldier, civilian, and child. Tickets to a military ball and reception in honor of the 160th and 364th Infantries at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles in May 1919 are also included in the collection. The book is a published history of Scottini's unit titled With the 364th Infantry in America, France, and Belgium, published in 1919 by the Knickerbocker Press in New York.
