Biographical / Historical
United Latinos for the Arts, Los Angeles (ULA-LA) was founded in 1985 by Eriberto Oriol and Angelica Gonzalez, graduates of the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF) Leadership program. ULA-LA became a non-profit in 1986, with a mission to serve as advocates for the arts in Los Angeles, especially for art with social and historical commentary. ULA-LA offered exhibits, workshops, and educational lectures centered on a communal process to produce, exhibit, and discuss issues.
