Pedro Armendáriz photographs and postcards
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of a signed headshot of actor Pedro Armendáriz (1912-1963) and a postcard of his character in the movie "Juan Charrasqueado" (1948). Armendáriz was an actor in the United States and Mexico, playing in over 120 film roles. "Juan Charrasqueado" is a 1948 Mexican Western film directed by Ernesto Cortázar where he played the lead character Juan Robledo.

Biographical / Historical
Pedro Gregorio Armendáriz Hastings (1912-1963) was a Mexican film actor who made films in both Mexico and the United States. He was discovered by film director Miguel Zacarías (1905-2006). Amendáriz repeatedly portrayed Pancho Villa and played opposite actresses such as Dolores del Río and María Félix. He is credited with over 120 film roles.
Amendáriz committed suicide in 1963 after developing cancer caused by the proximity to nuclear bomb testing in Nevada while filming "The Conqueror" (1956), produced by Howard Hughes in Utah.
