Scope and Contents

A collection of 14 letters from Rubén Darío to Julio Piquet spanning 1894 to 1914. Rubén Darío was a Nicaraguan poet who initiated the Spanish-American literary movement known as modernismo. Julio Piquet was the director of the Argentine newspaper La Nación beginning in 1886. The collection also contains:

  • A photograph of Darío's son, Rubén Darío Sánchez (1907-1948). Rubén Darío Sánchez inscribed the photograph (on verso) to Julio Piquet on 1911 November 23 in Paris.
  • A letter written on mourning stationery from Francisca Sánchez del Pozo to Piquet following Darío's death in 1916. Francisca Sánchez was Darío's life-companion and widow, and mother of Rubén Darío Sánchez.
  • A letter to Piquet from Amado Nervo, on 1916 May 29. Nervo was a distinguished Mexican modernist poet, journalist, educator, and ambassador to Argentina and Uruguay.
  • A copy of Rubén Darío's last will and testament, created in 1914.

    A collection of 14 letters from Rubén Darío to Julio Piquet spanning 1894 to 1914. Rubén Darío was a Nicaraguan poet who initiated the Spanish-American literary movement known as modernismo. Julio Piquet was the director of the Argentine newspaper La Nación beginning in 1886. The collection also contains: a photograph of Darío's son, Rubén Darío Sánchez (1907-1948); a letter written on mourning stationery from Francisca Sánchez del Pozo to Piquet following Darío's death in 1916; a 1916 letter to Piquet from Amado Nervo; and a copy of Rubén Darío's last will and testament created in 1914.
