Papers of Gordon Leo McDonough, member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and the United States Congress. Biography
McDonough, Gordon Leo - born in Buffalo, Erie County, New York, January 2, 1895; moved with his parents to Emporium, Cameron County, Pennsylvania in 1898; attended the public schools; graduated from the high school at Emporium; engaged as an industrial chemist at Emporium 1915-1918; moved to Los Angeles, California and resumed his former occupation 1918-1933; member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors 1933-1944, serving as chairman for one year; elected as a Republican to the Seventy-ninth and to the eight succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1945-January 3, 1963); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1962 to the Eighty-eighth Congress; died in Bethesda, Maryland, June 25, 1968; interment in Holy Cross Mausoleum, Los Angeles, California.
