Scope and Contents

This small collection consists of mostly 18th and 19th century European prints. Artists represented include Pierre Numa Basaget, Anne Claude de Caylus, George Follitt, Francois Jacques Dequevauviller, Edouard Hocquart, Gabriel Huquier, James Gabriel Huquier, Jean Francois Daumont, Georg Balthasar Probst, Giovanni Paolo Panini, Robert Laurie, Jacques Francois Chereau, and Andre Basset. Of particular note are the optical prints, which were meant to be seen through "optical machines" or "optiques", devices consisting of a mirror and lens that allowed viewers to enjoy these prints with the perception of three dimensions. Some of the prints have been mounted on board, indicating that they may have once been part of a teaching or reference collection.
