Scope and Content

The USC Davis School of Gerontology records consist of reports, contracts, guidelines, plans, grant applications, publicity, and publications, 1964-1987, that chronicle the development of Gerontology at USC. Erected as a tribute to Ethel Percy Andrus, the Andrus Gerontology Center is committed to understanding aging and preparing professionals to work in an aging society. Founded in 1975, the Leonard Davis School is the nation's first professional School of Gerontology. With its own faculty representing various disciplines, the School is able to offer students a wide range of scientific and professional Gerontology courses.

Biographical / Historical

The USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology is an academic division of the University of Southern California. It focused in gerontology, the study of the social, cultural, psychological, cognitive, and biological aspects of aging. The Leonard Davis School was founded in 1975. The school offered the world's first Ph.D. in Gerontology, the first joint master's degree in Gerontology and Business Administration, and the first undergraduate Health Science Track in Gerontology. Research on molecular biology, neuroscience, demography, psychology, sociology, and public policy is conducted at the Ethel Percy Andrus Gerontology Center, the research and services component of the school.
