Biographical / Historical
James J. Kelly earned his Ph.D. from the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University, his MSSW from the University of Tennessee, and his BS from Edinboro University in Pennsylvania. He taught gerontology, social work, and student orientation at California State University at Long Beach for 17 years, and was a pioneer in distance education, using technology to establish master's programs for the California State University campuses in Chico, Humboldt, Channel Islands, Hayward, and Bakersfield. Dr. Kelly also served in senior administrative positions at California State University, East Bay, and became president of Menlo College in 2011. Dr. Kelly has been actively involved in the NASW, serving as president from 2008-2011. He received the Frances Lomas Feldman Excellence in Education Award from the California Social Welfare Archives in 2013.

Abstract
Papers created and collected by Dr. James J. Kelly relating to MSW program development in California and the National Association of Social Workers. Kelly taught gerontology, social work, and student orientation at California State University at Long Beach for 17 years, and was a pioneer in distance education, using technology to establish master's programs for the California State University campuses in Chico, Humboldt, Channel Islands, Hayward, and Bakersfield. Dr. Kelly also served in senior administrative positions at California State University, East Bay, and became president of Menlo College in 2011.
