Biographical note
Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Cell and Neurobiology, Keck School of Medicine of USC, Dr. David Berman (November 4, 1917 - March 8, 2014) was a beloved educator in pharmacology who taught USC medical students for 60 years (1952 to 2012). His brilliance as a teacher is evidenced by more than 45 teaching awards. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in pharmacy, and a PhD in pharmacology at USC. He retired at age 70, and was rehired annually to teach pharmacology to first- and second-year medical students as "emeritus" every year for an additional 24 years. He said, "being with students keeps you young -- you pick up on their energy and excitement."
