Martha Boaz, dean from 1955-1978, was the School's longest-serving and perhaps most influential dean. Declared "one of the most dynamic librarians in California," Boaz was dedicated to library education, professionalism, and quality library services. She was active in the California Library Association (CLA), serving as President of the Association from 1962-1963, Chair of the Research Committee from 1958-1960, Chair of the Intellectual Freedom Committee from 1964-1966, President of the Library Education Division from 1968-1969, Board of Directors in 1972, and Chair of the Council of Deans from 1977-1978. Subseries includes 4 sub-subseries: Correspondence, Publications and Manuscripts, Administrative Files, and the Files of Robert Sommers.
