Scope and Content

The Foundation sound recordings consist almost exclusively of 17 inch LPs recorded under the auspices of the the Foundation and KUSC. The majority of the recordings are of performances of classical music by the Hancock Ensemble recorded by KUSC or at Los Angeles radio station KHJ. Also included are performances of classical and popular music by other groups or individuals, recorded either by KUSC or at KHJ; recordings of lectures on international relations and modern religions; dramatic productions by USC students and USC performing arts groups; USC events (graduations, building dedications, football games); broadcast news (including the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the D-Day invasion, V-E Day, general war news, a 1946 atomic bomb explosion, the fate of European war refugees); and speeches of President Roosevelt. Many of the LPS are in need of conservation and are currently unplayable. An electronic copy of the box lists is available upon request. Select recordings have been digitized.
