Correspondence, 1956 - 1974

 Series

Scope and Content

The Correspondence series is arranged into two subseries. First, alphabetically by individual's last name or subject and second, chronologically by year letter was composed or sent. Original folder titles were used to describe the materials and original order was kept in organizing the correspondence series. The correspondence series dates from 1956 to 1974. Letters include: personal notes from Flournoy to his peers, colleagues, and family members; letters of thanks to individuals for their support and financial assistance during Flournoy's campaign efforts; congratulations to Flournoy for winning elections; invitations to attend events and often to speak at those events; regrets for not being able to attend; condolences for not winning the 1974 Governor race in California; political advice from close friends and peers; and political topics which range from tax reforms, education, welfare, water conservation, welfare, and oil drilling. Some noteworthy individuals that Flournoy corresponded with include Richard Nixon, Nelson Rockefeller, Barry Goldwater, and Ronald Reagan.
