Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The Boeckmann Center Iberian and Latin American poster collection consists of posters and prints from Argentina, Cuba, Honduras, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico, Spain, and the United States acquired by the Boeckmann Center for Iberian and Latin American Studies. The posters from Argentina and Cuba are mostly related to cinema, including approximately 100 Cuban posters created by the Instituto Cubano del Arte e Industria Cinematográficos (ICAIC). However, the collection also holds political posters from Cuba created by the Organización de Solidaridad de los Pueblos de Asia, África y América Latina (OSPAAAL). Many of the posters and prints from Mexico and Spain are also explicitly political. The collection's Mexican posters include prints by ASARO (Asamblea de Artistas Revolucionarios de Oaxaca), Taller de Gráfica Popular, Secretaría de Educación Pública, Partido Mexicano de los Trabajadores, and a series of screen prints from 2010 against environmental destruction. Lastly, the collection holds 13 Spanish posters created during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939), which promote both the Republican and Nationalist sides of the war. The Boeckmann Center Iberian and Latin American poster collection will continue to grow with future acquisitions of posters and prints.
