Biographical / Historical
CCS spearheaded the purchase of the L.A. Conservation Corps' only owned facility, strategically located across from the Los Angeles State Historic Park. CCS persuaded the LACC’s Executive Director Bruce Saito (who as of 2022 is the Director of the CA Conservation Corps) that purchasing a building made good programmatic and economic sense. The Center now houses the LACC’s administrative headquarters. CCS conducted the real estate search, research, site evaluation, negotiations and environmental analysis. CCS leveraged grant funds from the State of California for this purchase. The work took nearly two years. Purchased for a little over $1.2 million, the property is worth millions today, and is an important asset for the LACC.
LACC is the largest non-profit local conservation corps in California, serving thousands of at-risk youth of color from disadvantaged communities every year and providing job-training and employment within the conservation sector.
