Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The Charles Harper Webb papers consist of drafts of poetry and prose, correspondence, publications featuring Webb's work, and ephemera from poetry events created and assembled by the American poet and professor, Charles Harper Webb (born 1948). The majority of the drafts in the collection relate to Webb's poems and short stories, along with drafts of unpublished novels and one published novel, The Wilderness Effect (1982, Chatto & Windus). Some of the correspondence in the collection concerns the three Stand-Up Poetry anthologies that Webb edited -- published in 1990, 1994, and 2002. The collection also holds ephemera, including posters, from the Los Angeles Poetry Festival and other events. Charles Harper Webb earned a BA in English from Rice University, an MA in English from the University of Washington, and an MFA in professional writing and a PhD in counseling psychology from the University of Southern California. Webb is a professor of English at California State University, Long Beach. Webb's other books include Brain Camp (2015, University of Pittsburgh Press), A Million MFAs Are Not Enough (2016, Red Hen Press), and Sidebend World (University of Pittsburgh Press, 2018).
