Scope and Contents
Additional letters written/received by the family of Benjamin Bennett Briggs. Included are letters written by his wife (Abby Crane Briggs), daughter (Irene Briggs Ward), and son-in-law, Samuel Lawrence Ward, who was a pastor in the Glendale Presbyterian Church. Some of the letters by Samuel Lawrence Ward were written while he and Irene Briggs Ward were missionaries in Persia. There is also some correspondence of Samuel Lawrence Ward's father (the earliest dating from 1836), and children. The letters describe life in Southern California (Glendale, specifically) where the family settled from the Midwest (Ohio) and after their Persian missionary work.
